Confessions of A Nursing Student: College Strike

How do I even begin this post?

I'm honestly so frustrated and angry that I'm no longer frustrated and angry. At this point, I'm just annoyed?

The Ontario colleges faculty are currently in week 5 of their strike. Let me repeat that one more time... week #5. Yes, the teachers have their valid reasons for striking, and I am 100% on side for anyone having their right to strike. However, I am not okay with both parties to use us, the students, as pawns in their games of negotiation.

The teachers say this is for the "benefit" of the students. How so? After sitting on my a** for the past 5 weeks, I am not benefiting at all.  In fact, I have been waiting patiently to even hear an UPDATE as to what is going on. Even so, as middle parities in this negotiation game with no control, we aren't even given the respect with any sort of updates from our schools.

We are completely in the dark. And, we cannot do anything.

Let me give you a rundown of the last 5 weeks:
  • The first week of the strike, I caught up with a lot of my readings
  • The second week of the strike, I lost motivation to do any work
  • I spent a lot of time with my puppy
  • I've searched for any updates on the strike
  • I've worked but, also given up ample amount of shifts with the fear that I should be doing studying instead of making money (for school btw) only because classes could resume at anytime
That's all I've done. Literally.

And, very recently, the school sent us an email saying they might extend the semester into our Christmas holidays.... like, excuse me? First I am being held from my education, and now they want to take away our holiday vacation for a strike that I did not ask for? How is this honestly fair? What about the students to pre-booked holiday flights? What about the international students who want to go home for the holidays?

What makes me mad the most is the amount of money my parents worked soo hard to save to send me to school to help me become a nurse. And, I've been sitting at home for the last 5 weeks. Money well spent... nope. Money was well stolen in my opinion.

It's absolutely not fair.

Another option the school has was that if the strike persisted over x amount of weeks, we would just resume the semester to JANUARY 2nd. The day after New Years... seriously?  So technically, this other option pushes all our semesters back. Possibly graduation is pushed back then?

URG.

I'm sorry guys. I'm so frustrated, I honestly wish I knew how to organize my emotions into words so this post can actually make sense. I know I'm all over the place. But, that is exactly how I feel. I am confused about the entire situation. I just want a simple answer as to whether or not what is happening to MY education that I am paying for?

Is that really hard to ask?

Oh, and an apology would be nice as well... you know, for putting us through this bullsh*t.

Confession: I'm Afraid of the Dentist

Confession: I'm Afraid of the Dentist

This was the LAST time I was at the dentist.. look how happy I looked!
Confession time. I'm afraid of the dentist.

And, when I say I'm afraid, I literally mean that I am tearfully afraid to go to the dentist. Want to know the weird part? This is something I recently developed... like months ago developed. I know, crazy right? How could someone go to the dentist for 20 years, and THEN all of a sudden become afraid?

Well, it happened to me. Not, a fun experience. And, lucky for you... I'm going to tell you why and how this happened.

It all started last December when I went in to get my wisdom teeth removed. From my sister, I thought it would be an easy experience, especially knowing they would freeze the crap out of my gums so I wouldn't feel anything. And, from my sister's reencounter of her wisdom teeth removal, it actually didn't too long. So, like in the photo above BEFORE I went in, I was actually excited and happy for the removal of my wisdom teeth.

Funny thing is, I actually only have 3 wisdom teeth; so, I thought the entire process wouldn't take too long. But, it was a STRUGGLE for the dentist to remove just the ONE from my right bottom mandible. THANKFULLY, I didn't feel no pain from all the cutting and whatever they do. But, I did feel sensitivity in the tooth they were working on.. I really didn't like feeling that at all.

I did, however, feel the PRESSURE the dentist use when she put her hand atop of my bottom row of teeth, to much my jaw down in order to pull out my tooth. Like what? The dentist was telling me that the root of my tooth had a hook, so it would be harder to remove. OKAY.. I thought, and really didn't say much. I kept feeling the pressure, and I also began to feel the FORCE she used with her little tools to pull out this tooth. I began to start tearing up because I just really didn't understand why she couldn't saw the tooth in half like another dentist did for my sister...

She saw me crying and gave me another needle to freeze the feelings on my gums. I started to hear her tell the receptionist to call her husband to come in. After 10 minutes (it felt longer lto be honest) of her force and me just crying and making painful noises, her husband comes and understand the hook on my tooth... He actually used a different method of taking the tooth out, and within 30 seconds, the entire thing was done. FINALLY
I looked at the tooth, and no wonder this lady couldn't take it out.. the hook was a BIG hook, and she was pulling in the wrong direction. And, she did explain to me that she wanted to preserve the shape of it and not saw it in half... LIKE WHAT? She wanted to continue to take the other 2 out, and I yelled out no. I just wanted to go home and get out of there as soon as possible.

I cried like a baby. The entire thing just bothered me... And, ever since, the thought of me going to the dentist frightens me.

So... today, I am going back to the dentist. The last time I went was in December, and that was a miserable experience. Hopefully, today would be better, especially since I will be put to sleep with anesthesia. Wish me luck...

Challenging Myself for October!

Challenging Myself for October!

It is the first day of October, so happy October anyone! The other day, I was really looked into the upcoming months. My birthday is next month, and I really wanted to go to a different city with the girls and Jay's guys to just party it up. And because the party would be for me, I really want to look good. So this month, I am challenging myself to legit go all out and make my body a priority.

I'll be first to admit that I am definitely not happy with certain parts of my body. For example, my arms. I feel like they are just big flab that I will never be able to get rid of. So, instead of bringing myself down about my body, I decided to enhance some of my favourite parts of my body - yes this is the positive way of doing things.  Personally, I like my ass, and legs. So I definitely want to create more of a shape to them. I also want to have a tinier waist.

So what am I doing? I'll definitely be participating in those 30 day challenges. In fact, below are the ones I will be sticking to for the rest of the month. I think next week, I'll even write up a legit workout schedule to share with everyone!

Yes, all of these challenges won't create DRAMATIC changes in over a month. But, the way I see it, if I stick to something for a month, I will be more motivated to continue my progression in order to get where I want. Are any of you guys challenging yourself to get in shape? Let me know!

I Don't Want to Hang Out...

24 September 2014

I Don't Want to Hang Out...

Do you have that one friend who just wants to spend every minute of their free time with you? I seem to have a lot of these in school. It makes sense though... who would want to stay alone for 1-2 hours before their next class? I get it; but I cannot honestly say that I was ever that friend. No... I actually would rather like to be alone and just have time to myself as I am enduring my next class to begin.

Okay, so on Wednesdays, I have a class that is from 9am - 12 noon, three looooooong hours. Afterwards, I have a two hour break until my next class which begins at 2. And then I am done for the day at 3pm. Okay, so within that two hour break, my friend from my 9am class also has a  break - like 3 hours or something. I don't remember. Anyways, this friend just always wants to do something for these two hours. And I find that annoying. I really do. I'm currently taking classes that requires a lot of attention and reading... So whenever I have break, I make an effort to sit down in the library and do what I have to do. I find this not only beneficial towards the course, but beneficial for myself so that I am not stumped with last minute studying for 2-3 subjects on one weekend.

Anyways... majority of the friends I have do not understand this. Instead, they rather walk around campus talking, or just sitting down talking. Like, there is nothing wrong with socializing, nor is there nothing wrong with wanting to study. I am being completely honest when I say I cannot get any school work done at home, so why not use my time wisely? But, like I said, my friends do not seem to understand this and just want to be together ALLLLLL the time.

Like I need my space to... Is that too hard to ask? It is to the point where I told this friend that I recently enrolled in a class ... which was obviously a lie. But, I guess that lie caught up to me... One of my classes actually added up open lab hours during those two hours, which is actually a real excuse to leave! Hopefully the person I am talking about doesn't read my blog... I guess we will find out the next time we have class (either today or tomorrow).

I Am Easily Annoyed!

I Am Easily Annoyed!

image via
Truthfully, I get soooo annoyed at the littlest things people do whenever in life in general. But, I am usually always able to tolerate these people as I know that whatever they are doing will eventually stop. However, never  have I ever experienced such an annoyance from this girl who sat beside me in one of my classes yesterday. Before I continue, I want to say no offence to anyone else who does this.

Okay. So in a lecture obviously people can either take notes the fashion way, or type out their notes from their laptops/ipads, whatever. I personally like to take notes on my laptop, only because my penmanship is not as legible as it used to be back in high school, especially when I am rushing to write something important that the prof is explaining that isn't on the slides. It is literally all chicken scratches... (hmm.. being a doctor could be my future).

But anyways, when I type, I tend to talk to myself about win my head as I'm typing. Get it? Okay. So the same things goes for when the prof is talking and I am just typing whatever he/she says. Makes sense? Yes. Okay, so obviously this process takes focus and concentration and the moment I'm distracted, I could easily lose my train of thought or even write the other thing I am thinking about. Following me so far? Okay...

The girl I sat beside yesterday also took notes on her laptop, like most of the other students. But, this girl was like mad at her laptop or something. Like I literally mean that this girl was typing so angrily, which made her keyboard SOOOO loud. It and seriously annoyed me.

gif via
I kept losing my train of thought because the sound of my keyboard and her keyboard were meshing at the same time, and my head was getting confused whether or not I wrote down my thoughts or not. It was just extremely frustrating.

It was so loud to the point where the other girl beside her asked her to type a little more quiet. Of course, I could have asked the same thing... but I think that's weird because you can't really control the way you type on your own laptop...  I don't know. But it was just so annoying to me and I guess that one other person. But other people didn't to mind. Maybe it was because I sat beside her so it sounded much louder than it really was? I'm not sure.. but what about you? Are you annoyed when others around you type LOUDLY in a quiet environment? I'm actually curious if I'm alone on this.

I Can Never Say "No"

03 September 2014

I Can Never Say "No"

"Vanessa can you do something for me?", "Can you take my shift?", "Can you work tomorrow?", "Can you buy that for me?", "Wanna go and do this?" My answer? It's usually "yes" every single time. It is like people just know that I could never say no. I feels like people literally just take advantage of this fact and just constantly ask me to do things without every asking for anything in return.

It kind of sucks, being a person unable to say no. But, let's not over exaggerate here. I know the difference between right and wrong. If someone asks me to do something illegal for them, like stealing a toy from whatever store, of course I have the courage to say "no". So why can't I ever say no when someone asks me to take their shift even when I just don't want to?

I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it is something I am definitely trying to work on. For example, the other day my friend asked me to take her shift at work for Monday. Although I would have been able to work that day, I realized that it would just be very stressful travelling all the way from school to work within a specific amount of time. Rather than putting myself in any position, I had the courage to say "No." It was weird, I was actually nervous that she would get mad at me, but she was actually really understanding.

My first "no" in a long time went really well! Hopefully I can keep this up! I definitely do not want to be one of those people others take advantage of just because I have a hard time saying no!

Living On The Wild Side!

27 August 2014

Living On The Wild Side!

Yesterday was such an adventurous day! And when I mean adventurous, I mean going all over the city - but it was waayyyyy more tiring than how I'm describing right now. Anyways, I really wanted to talk about something I've never done in my life, which is going out of my comfort zone and doing something COMPLETELY out of the ordinary!

What did I do?
I decided to get my cartilage pierced. Doesn't seem that exciting? Well, it is for me! I've been wanting to get this done for 3 years now, and throughout the summer I was bugging my sister that I wanting to get my cartilage pierced before the end of the summer. But, knowing me, I usually talk the talk but don't walk the walk. So, my sister never took me seriously.
I've been doing research over the past 3 years about getting the piercing done properly. I've always read that piercings are much more safer when using a needle rather than the gun. My past 3 ear piercings, and even my nose piercings, have been done with a gun, so I wasn't really too worried about anything that was to happen afterwards. But, deep down I knew getting the needle was the safest option; I was just too afraid of the pain.
So, when my cousin, sister and I were travelling all over the place just to fix ONE tire on her brothers BMW, we decided to walk around. Across the street, my sister spotted a tattoo parlour and reminded me about the piercing I wanted and that I should ask questions there. We went in, and it sounded super easy! It cost $30 and I was just in luck, I had $30 cash on me and I knew this was a sign and place to get it done. The only problem was that the piercing guy wasn't there and asked us to come later - I had a feeling that maybe this wasn't the place for me to get my piercing done.
But on the way back to pick up the BMW, we went back in, and the guy was there! I was nervous at first because he seem cranky or something - but looks can really be deceiving. He was super nice to me and was really helpful  with ALL the questions I had. It really was an amazing experience. I thought I would end up getting a stud, but apparently they didn't do that there since it would be done with a gun, so I got a thick hoop ring.

I had an amazing experience, I really did. The entire process hurt less than what I thought; the only part that really hurt was when the guy left the needle in my ear and then had trouble taking the needle out and putting the earring through. That was a crazy thing to capture on video - yes my sister and cousin took a video because they truly thought I would cry, but I didn't. aha.

Have you done anything out of the ordinary this summer? Let me know in the comments!

My iPhone 4s Stresses Me Out

My iPhone 4s Stresses Me Out

Hey Guys! Just a quick announcement! For the next two week, I'll be missing here and there as I prepare to for my exam next Thursday! So, please do not be disappointed when you come here to my blog with nothing to read! I swear I'll be back better than ever! Anyways, back to the point of this blog post..

Last week, I was attempting to take a picture and noticed that my phone wasn't taking the picture. It was really odd to me. So I continuously pressed the home button, and nothing. It was literally frozen and I felt like I couldn't do anything. Now, some of you may already know that I have an iPhone 4s, and your first instinct is to tell me to just press the sleep button and home button for 10 seconds. See, I would do that but I can't.

A few months ago, my sleep button (the top button of my phone) decided to stay put and get stick inside the phone. So now, that button is useless as I cannot even press it to for anything. So instead, I had to turn on the accessibility option (something like that) and now I have this floating button on my home screen that I have to open, then press device and FINALLY press lock screen. It is such a horrible and long process.

Because I am always on my phone and laptop, I usually take the time to back up my phone whenever I can. When it comes to saving photos, it is sooo easy as I connected my iCloud on both my cell phone and laptop. So whenever I take a photo with my phone, it is automatically already on my laptop. But for some reason, this doesn't work for video - I have to manually put it in a separate album if I am feeling lazy to connect my phone to my laptop and transfer them... it is just a long process.

So, back to the story... When I was unable to do anything with my phone, the screen went blank. I thought my phone was dead or something. But, when I moved the sound button down to vibrate, my phone vibrated. And when I moved it back up to sound, there was sound whenever I received a text. So clearly there is some miscommunication going on with the phone.

My only option was connect my phone onto iTunes and restore my entire phone. Boy was this a long process - literally like an hour or something. It was just terrible. When my phone finally restored, I had the option to restore it as new, or as previous - I obviously selected the second option, but my phone didn't seem to understand. It restarted as factory settings, and when I tried to restore my phone from my backup, EVERYTHING was just gone.

I was actually sad... I lost all the videos I didn't get a chance to sync, and they were all very cute videos of Penelope. And worst of all... I lost ALL my contacts. The only contacts that was left on my phone was my mother, father and sister... I memorized their numbers since I was little, I would have been fine if their numbers weren't saved.

It is just horrible, and now I am still dealing with my friends trying to trick me as they next me pretending to be someone I don't know. Like it is funny and all, but I just wanna know who you really are so I can have a normal conversation, especially when I need help with something...

#SorrynotSorry

Hey fellow bloggers! Life lately is starting to become very intense. I don't know about all of you, but I know I do things that may annoy, frustrate or even piss of other people, but there are just time where I just do not care. #sorrynotsorry. That is why I decided to share with you all some of my sorry not sorry moments!

1) If I can't open plastic bags fast enough. At work, sometimes they need me at the front cashing people out. You don't know how frustrating it is when customers look annoyed at me just because I can't open a darn plastic bag fast enough. I'm pretty sure if you were in my position, you'd have a hard time trying to scan items, then placing them in plastic bags. #sorrynotsorry

2) If I go back to the same aisle over, and over again. When I go shopping, workers or I guess customers will get so annoyed of me just going back to the same aisle over and over again. I can't help it if I like an item, and then need to decided whether or not I want to purchase it. So, the best thing to do is to go walk around the store and if the item is still on my mind, I go back and look at it again. I tend to do this a lot, and honestly I don't even end up buying the darn item. #sorrynotsorry

3) Wanting to look good. There are days where I just want to dress up! So what if we go to a park and I wanna look like freaked Madonna. I feel like I want to look good, so I shall look good. I don't even care if I don't even have the proper attire that is appropriate for the environment. Deal with it. #sorrynotsorry.

4) I post up a lot of snap stories. My mentally is that if I download an app, and I have the option to create stories about myself, then I will indeed create stories to share. Do not complain, or joke around that I create soooooo many stories. So what? What's the point of having the snap story option if y'all don't want me to freaken use it. Be prepared to watch over 49 seconds of snap stories daily. #sorrynotsorry

5) I post pictures about Penelope. Like I said in the previous point, why do you care if I post a billion photos of Penelope. This is my life, and if I choose to share photos of her on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., then you really have to get over it. Why is there an option to share pictures with my social media friends if y'all gonna complain. I'll post photos of her if I want. Deal with it. #sorrynotsorry

6) I love spaghetti/pasta/lasagna. This is literally my favourite dish. When there is nothing to eat at home, I will always make it. I don't care if my family, cousins, friends get annoyed with me making them the same dish, I'm the one cooking... sooo yeah. #sorrynotsorry

Confessions: An Embarrassing Story

Alright, so I was thinking long and hard about 1 embarrassing story to share with you guys. I really wanted to share a story that others could probably relate to, and I wanted to share something that I was pretty much not ashamed of. But, who am I kidding... Every situation I'm in, I embarrass myself which was just a crazy experience because I used to be the shyest person you'll ever know! So.. Let me share with you 2 embarrassing stories that instantly pop up when someone asks me whats my most embarrassing story!

I could easily share about the time in grade 9, I slipped and fell in a puddle. Not just a wet puddle, but a muddy puddle! My high required us to wear school uniform, and I didn't have extra pants in my locker, so my friend had to resort to giving me her pants. Which was just worst because her hips were so much smaller than mine so, her pants just couldn't fit. I ended up walking around in muddy pants, socks and flats, and pulling down my shirt so that no one could see the mud spot on my butt. Total embarrassment, especially since it was high school.

But, now that I think about it... that is definitely not my most embarrassing moment. I hate to say this, but my embarrassing moment has to do with my own body working against me!

During my first years in the Air Cadet Program, we were usually sent to camp for the summer for either 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or even a full 6 weeks. My first summer camp experience was for 3 weeks, and it was actually a lot of fun! I met a bunch of new people, and I actually learnt a lot. But, one day during the hot summer, we were in class and something hit me that I just got my period. I didn't care much for it at the time because my period used to be so inconsistent, that even when I thought I was on it, I really wasn't.

Then when the class was over, and we had to go outside, I stood up last and asked my friend to check behind me if I had a stain. Lone and behold.... she told me that my entire ass was red. And keep in mind, that at the time we were required to wear these ugly grey shorts that went to our knees, and matching grey t-shirts that we HAVE to tuck into the shorts... So there was no way I could get a away with pulling out my shirt to hide this mess.

I walked outside, and thank goodness that the other cadets were not facing my direction, so they couldn't see. I didn't want to walk in front of everyone, so I quickly asked my friend to get a female staff ASAP to help me. My friend came back with the female staff I recognize from my home squadron, and she felt my embarrassment and took me out of the group, and back to my barric. I had to walk past so many people, and literally I think a few people saw... even the guy I liked at the time.

SO EMBARRASSING I KNOW. PLEASE DO NOT HOLD IT AGAINST ME... ever. Especially all my followers who know in real life, lets not use this against me okay?

I was really hesitant to share this story with the entire internet world, but hey it wouldn't make me human if nothing embarrassing ever happened to me. Plus, I'm okay with it, a bit, and theres nothing to be ashamed of it anymore!

Confessions: Guilty Pleasures

It is the second day of July, and I am so far going strong by blogging everyday this month... let's hope I am able to keep this up! Today, I am killing 2 birds with 1 stone and linking up with Bella for Confessions and Juliette, Allie, and Faith for Blog Everyday in July Challenge! So, today I will be talking about my guilty pleasures!

AllieologyConfessions
I'll just get straight to the point, we all have guilty pleasures... who are we kidding. So, I'm just going to list out a bunch of my guilty pleasure, and maybe as you're reading them, you'll say, "OMG ME TOO!"
  • I spend hours and money just getting my nails done for no particular reason... I dunno I just like the way it looks I guess..
  • I literally could sit hours upon hours just watching episodes and seasons of television shows! I've done it for Orange is the New Black, Gossip Girl, Make it or Break it, Pretty Little Liars (before season 5 started), and now for a show called Prison Break!
  • I love to eat icing from the container. It may sound nasty to next person who may want to use the icing for something else, but trust me it taste so good and you should honestly try it out!
  • I like to walk barefooted. I feel so free when I do!
  • I feel like I always end up buying something from work after a shift... which really isn't good now that I think about it.
  • Playing Simpsons Tapped Out... I don't know why, but I genuinely enjoy playing that game on my phone.
  • Netflix... even though selecting a movie is absolutely hard, I just get all happy whenever I watch anything, or someone wants to watch something from Netflix on my TV
  • Feeding Penelope larger portions of a carrot than I'm suppose to.. I just feel so bad, I really think she's always hungry, and I don't want to starve her from her favourite veggie... so I end up always giving her a little bit more!
Well those are just a few of my guilty pleasures that I could think of from the top of my head! Do you share some of these guilty pleasures with me? Let me know!

Confessions: World Cup Got Me Mad

Confessions of a Blogaholic
Well hello there fellow bloggers! Today is Wednesday, and I decided to finally take part in this blog link-up after discovering about it a loooooong time ago. Today I am linking up for the first time with Bella from Dateless in Dallas with her weekly link-up of confessions.

The World Cup Got Me Mad
Here's the thing... I like playing in sports, but I'm not the best. I like watching other people play, but I really don't care who wins. So believe it or not when I say this, but I've actually been watching most of the World Cup matches with my dad.  His excitement and anger towards some of the players is actually very entertaining, so why not spend 90 minutes or so with him to get a good laugh, and well just spend time with him.

Ever since the World Cup doesn't allow replays for the refs to see some of the plays, the refs have been calling some of the absolute WORST calls, that even got me mad. Like I said... I really don't care who wins or whatever,  but still..... I just don't understand why a ref would give a penalty out if they aren't even sure what happened!

Let me give you an extremely short break down of one of yesterday's game: Greece vs. Ivory Coast. So, in the first half, Andreas Samaris (#22) fromGreece scores a goal... In the second half, Wilfried Bony (#12) from Ivory Coast, makes a beautiful shot to tie the game. There are only a few minutes left of the game, and player Sameras somehow fell and the ref allowed for a penalty shot.  Everyone is like... "urggg omg why".  Then they show this replay:

How in the world did the ref think a player from Ivory Coast actually pushed him over... he's not even close to Sameras - he tripped from his own feet.  However, this call from the ref allowed a penalty shot, where it was just one-on-one with the goalie and him... and he scores.

This must have to be the most undeserving win ever... and it was just a heart breaking loss for Ivory Coast who you can tell were really desperate to go on to the next round for to compete the semi-finals...

And it wasn't just me who was mad and sadden by this controversial call... everyone on twitter was just too upset and creating up their own theories about why the ref called (some people obviously said Greece paid the refs). But, who knows... I know is that if I was one of the player from Ivory Coast, and I decided to watch that game... I would be even more upset.
