Weekly Wishes #33

Happy Monday bloggers! It is that time of the week to be linking up with Melyssa for Weekly Wishes. This is a great linkup to share weekly goal and receive some encouragement from others who also have wishes/goals for the week!

Last Week's Wishes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I'll admit it... I definitely did not go through as many of my wishes from last week. Like for one... I definitely did not get enough sleep, my room is still disastrous, and I didn't end up going to the gym 4-5 times a week like I wanted. However, I did go to the gym once, which was Friday, and I actually partook in bootcamp for an hour, then worked out on my own for another hour, and then joined the zumba class for an hour... that should count for something right?
This Week's Wishes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Do readings ahead of time. It is the second week of school, and I want to keep up my momentum of staying on top of my class - yes, that includes doing ALL the readings AHEAD of time. This is definitely a skill that is worth starting now.
  2. Sleep. I need to remember that sleep is the most important part of being successful. I need rest in order to study - I'm going to need sleep (and a lot) every day of the week!
  3. Plan blog prompts. Now that I will be busy with school, I decided to plan (like a to do list format) of blog prompts I would be blogging about everyday. I also hope to write most of them on the weekends so that I am able to stay up with school work, and also keep up with my blog.
  4. Clean my room/ Reorganize. My sister is slowly moving her stuff out as she is preparing to move into the resident life at her new university! I gotta make sure she doesn't take any of my cloths/shoes/makeup - everything. Time to clean up and take ownership of what is really mine!
  5. Hit the gym 4-5 times this week. Yes, I need to make sure I stick to this plan, and actually hit the gym to lose weight and attain my dream body!
  6. Plan out new workout routine. Because I have an entirely new schedule for school, I need to plan out what days and time I will be available to stop by the gym. With that, I need a new workout schedule. I am more serious than ever to lose weight that I am planning to designate a day solely to one part of my body, i.e., Monday could be arms day!
These are my wishes for the week.  If you're participating and happened to hop onto my blog, leave your link so I can leave some encouragement as well! Have a great Monday, xo

Confessions of a 3rd Year Uni Student! - Week #1

Confessions of a 3rd Year Uni Student! - Week #1

Happy Saturday everyone! Please note that this is the first week of a weekly blog series I decided start writing about my weeks as a third year university student!

It has only been the first week of school and I literally feel like I've been in school for over a month! Usually first day of classes are introductory, and by that I mean that usually the prof just goes over the syllabus for the course year, and then just does an introduction to the course. Pretty much basic stuff for the first week of class. But, boy was I wrong. Sometimes, I forget how the higher I continue to climb the latter towards my University diploma, the harder and harder school work gets.

Anyways, continuing on about my week at school; I think it was just absolutely great! Surprisingly this entire week; I was very fortunate enough to see every single friend I've made in my previous 2 years here in university! IT was just an odd thing of course, but I was very thrilled that they were still open with me and we still talk like great friends.

On Monday, I saw my high school friend Nathali. I think the last time I saw her was actually first semester of my second year at university, so pretty much 1 year ago. Crazy? I know; she was the one who actually recognized me and stopped me and we just chatted on the side of the side walk before she headed to class.  That same day, I saw and caught up with my other friends Noor and Natalia; I literally saw them a few months ago, so of course it was extremely easy to catch up with them! On Wednesday, my friend Rayal actually ended up being in my human exceptionality class, which I was really excited about because I don't like being alone in classes, and I like studying with others. That same day, I saw my greatest, and long time friend Diane and we chatted long in the library. Then outside of the library, I saw my french buddy Nikita (a friend I made back in first year) and we caught up a lot! Then, that same day I ended up seeing my friend Synthia, who also ended up being in my anthropology class. On Thursday, I ended up seeing Chad, another first year friend in my anthropology class! I introduced him and Rayal to each other since we were all in that class with one another. Then, on Friday, in the gym with Diane, I saw my two high school friends Angela and Eugenia!

I'm pretty sure you guys got bored reading about that - but honestly, it was so great seeing them. Sometimes, I forget how fun school can be, which is all thanks to the great time you have with friends. Don't y'all agree? Well, anyways, one of my goals for the school year was to actually create more friends. And so this week, in all my classes and tutorials, I decided to talk to someone new each time!

Hmm... What else can I say about the week I've had? Oh the fact that I've actually been ahead with my readings for the classes I had the past week! It was actually so great because for the first time in a long time, I actually feel motivated to do well in school. I actually feel motivated to continue to keep up, and even stay ahead in with my schoolwork!

***
My sister also came home yesterday from Hamilton. She's staying for the weekend. I told her that she should blog about her university experience. It was something I wished I had done back in first year to see how much I've grown and changed. For one, I'm so much more sociable and friendlier to people than I was back in first year.

So, with that being said, I'm excited to write a series about my third year in university, and one day reflect back on these days with the good and bad memories!

Today's post reading: Matthew 25:1-46 (ESV)

Today is the 5th day of the 16 day plan in my journey of reading, reflection and responding to what the bible says about love. If you'd like to follow alone, join HERE and perhaps start your own journey! Ready to go on this journey with me? Well then, let's get started!

Driving down the highway and getting off the exit, I'm sure you've had your fair share of seeing those who ask stand in front of the stop lights holding up a sign that says something along the lines of, "I'm homeless, no work. Please help. God Bless." There are days where I do not hesitate to give money to those who ask; but then there are days, especially when I'm with my parents, I don't.

Why? Well... sometimes my parents can be right. How do I really know they don't have a job? How do I really know that they are homeless? Or a question I'm sure everyone asks... What do they really do with the money we give them? Is it for more drugs? Alcohol? Or for paying their rent. It is an honest question, which is why I tend to also not give spare change.

This goes the same way when I see those sitting on the sides of the streets when I am walking downtown. Many holding signs with an empty cup, many just sleeping in blankets on the side of the road, or those who play music for extra cash. What is it about them that makes my heart break? I can truly say that I have shared my spare change with those who definitely needed it more than me. But, is it bad that I feel like I selectively choose? I think its bad actually...
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me,  I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. ' - Matthew 25:35-36 (ESV)
Sometimes, it is easy to forget what we are blessed to have in our lives. Fortunately, there was never a time I experienced that starving feeling, or had no where to sleep or even felt like I had to ask others for money and steal just to survive another day. But, thinking about the lives of those I see on a daily basis... I'm sure that they had this luxury once upon a time. And, it changed in an instant; or even as a slow process.

It is easy to take for granted for what we have; and it also easy to forget to thank others - especially the Lord. We always need to be thankful for what we have, and that is through the act of showing love towards others who need it.... how? Sharing. Sharing what we have will go along way as one day when you need help, the Lord will provide you with abundance of joy and care.

10 on 10: September 2014

Third day of classes, and I have already succeed at being late to every class thus far. I really need to step my game up if I am serious about bringing my grades up. (I think that should also include me not writing this post during class.. opps). It is all good; the prof is actually just going through the syllabus for the course... sooo since today is the 10th, I decided to participate in Rebekah's Ten on Ten to share how our day went.  If you have no idea of what this is, click HERE to check out other people's Ten on Ten in August.

P.S. these photos may seem very boring but, that is only because my day is at school... This is my life - living at school and trying to accomplish the goals I created for myself (yesterday's post).

Goals for the School Year

Goals for the School Year

Another summer has come and gone, and it is now time to hit the books again. Time to wake up early in the morning just to drag ourselves out of bed to get to class on time, or staying up until early int he morning just to finish an assignment we've known about since the beginning of class. Why think about the negative? Today is only the second day of class and I think it is time to create a sort of "to-do" list of things I want to accomplish during this school year! Like goals for every little thing that will help me bring my grades my and reach my overall career goal.

Goals for Third Year University! 2014-2015
  • Bring my GPA to a 3.0 (that is like a 75% average)
  • Do assigned readings before EACH class
  • Create textbook notes for each chapter/readings ahead of time (preferably before lecture)
  • Continue to be a volunteer note taker
  • Combine textbook and lecture notes together to create test/midterm/exam review ahead of time
  • Study ahead of time
  • Start researching the moment assignment/essay topics are given out
  • Get a B or higher as a final mark in every class
  • Not purchase any food from the food court - instead make something and bring it from home
  • Go to the gym before/after classes since I am already on campus (5x a week)
Well, I know these goals pretty much sound redundant, but these are my goals. These are stuff I am acknowledging that I need to work on. I am honestly hoping that after accomplishing these goal, it will successfully become a skill for me - to manage my time properly!

Weekly Wishes #32

Happy Monday bloggers! Today, is the first day of school. I don't know whether to be excited or not - all I know is that this year I am determined to do well as a third year student in university! Oh, it is that time of the week to be linking up with Melyssa for Weekly Wishes. This is a great linkup to share weekly goal and receive some encouragement from others who also have wishes/goals for the week!

Last Week's Wishes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OKOK, so I've been saying week after week that I'm saving money in order to buy a new cage for Penelope. I officially have enough, and I am super excited to purchase her a new and spacious home! I am also (somewhat) keeping up with my wish to cut my portions in half. There are days where I am doing great, but then there are days where I am just sooo hungry. Its always a battle with my body.
This Week's Wishes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Sleep. I need to remember that sleep is the most important part of being successful. I need rest in order to study - I'm going to need sleep (and a lot) every day of the week!

  4. Plan to meet up with people. Today and tomorrow I have made arrangements to meet with those I am purchasing textbooks from, and those who are buying textbooks from me. Hopefully I brought the right textbooks, and I have the right about set in order to purchase from others.
