Hey There!

Hey There!

Hello, friends! September already?! Crazy how time flies... like really flies. I mentioned in my September goals post that I'd be participating in Bailey's #blogtemberchallenge. This is definitely  going to be a challenge for me as I will shortly be entering into my last year of university, while trying to apply for post-undergrad programs and maintaining my part-time job in order to buy food for my hungry, hungry tummy. This is a month long challenge, so I think with some planning and scheduling, this challenge shouldn't be too much of a problem!

Today's prompt:
Introduce yourself however you like! Pics, blog, collage, your choice :)
For those who have yet to meet me, I'm Vanessa - but, most people, call me Nessa or V.  I also have other titles that I'm usually referred to as, whether it would be a sister, a daughter, a girlfriend, a university student, or the quiet funny one.  I'm a lot of things. But, please don't let these labels influence the way you see me. I like to laugh, I like to smile, but more importantly, I like to make others laugh and others smile. So, you can very much call me a people person!

I grew up here in the city of Toronto, CANADA. In fact, I've lived in the same house my entire life! So, the city life is all I know and what I am accustomed to. However, there was a time back in 2010 I "camped" out in the woods/forests for about 5 days and 4 nights for a survival course I was taking... looking back, I really don't know how I was able to survive that. But, all I know is that I'm more in love with the city than ever; and get anxious at the idea of being out and about without phone signal or internet connection.. I know, that's kind of bad :/

What people usually do not know is that I am a mixed baby. Would you like to take a guess before I make the "shocking" reveal?? Go ahead.
You probably didn't guess it... I'm half Filipino, and half Sri Lankan! More specifically, my momma is from the Philippines and my dad is from Sri Lanka. People usually say it is such an odd mix; but, I think it is a beautiful one :) It's funny though, people say I look more Filipino while my sister looks more Sri Lankan. But, they usually say that after they know our mix... beforehand people guesses a whole bunch of backgrounds for me - I've gotten Spanish a lot, and the one time Egyptian.
This is my sister by the way! I'm older by 1 year and 4 months!
Besides myself, my friends and family are my life. I think I even care more about them than I do for myself. I am short (5''1 tall to be exact), but I do have a fire-y personality. I don't like to be lied to nor do I like to be used. I do, however, like to go out with friends and my Jay, and I am a foodie! So, do not be surprised if you're on my insta page and see photos of food I'm constantly eating!

Anyways... this is just the basic overview of me. If you happen to be curious about me, please don't hesitate to ask any more of your questions below! I'd be more than glad to answer them and get to know you as well. And, while your at it, leave a link to your blog!

But, What About Me?

But, What About Me?

Ask anyone who knows me to describe me with one word, and I can almost guarantee that they will describe me as selfless

To me, this can be both a good and bad thing. It is a good thing because others sees me as a people person. Someone they can confide in, someone they can ask help from, or someone they can lean on for a shoulder to cry on. It could also be a bad thing because others can use this trait for their personal advantage. And, by this I mean they can just use me whenever they please.

The best part about being selfless is that I am honestly so happy whenever I make someone else happy. I usually never have an ulterior motive whenever I do anything for anyone, and I don't hardly expect anything in return besides the simple "thank you". It makes me feel good knowing that I can make a difference in someone's lives based on the actions, including the smallest ones, I do. The way I see it, actions can go a long way. And, the way we treat others really can make a huge impact on their lives.

I guess the worst part is summed up in the question, what about me? This is exactly how I've been feeling lately. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping others... but, sometimes there are just those days where I need someone to put down their phones and just listen to me for once. Sometimes, I just need someone to ask me how I'm doing, or how was school. Don't get me wrong, I have Jay who does that for me, but sometimes it's not him I need that sort of comfort from. Does that make sense? I guess I mean, sometimes I want my girls to take more of an interest in my life, just like I have an interest in theirs.

I dunno. I guess this all stems from a situation that happened recently. As I keep mentioning, this week is reading week for me, and that means I have the week off from school. For the past month or so, I've been trying to plan a weekend get away with my friends. I sent them questions asking them when they are available, I sent them different links to hotel rooms with varying price, and I constantly asked for their opinions. I guess you can say I was pretty much ignored with the entire idea, and then just decided to give up on the plan. If no one else was serious, then whats the point of me waiting my energy?

So then I stopped. Then, just last week I started getting questions from everyone in our group discussion asking what we are doing. At this point I was just straight up pissed off. Like, I fully had an idea well in advanced, and I was literally ignored every time I brought up the idea. Now, with just 2 days from when they wanted to do a weekend get away trip, they were serious? It made me made, and just felt ignored. And I just made it clear to them that I don't want to be apart of whatever it is they are planning because I just wasn't in the mood to waste my time finding hotels just to be ignored again.

They eventually didn't end up going (no shocker there).

But, this situation just goes to show you how my efforts are no longer even recognized. My actions are like expected. And, it really does suck because no one realizes the amount of effort I put into everything I do. For the next few days, I'm going to try to just think about me. And, if people can't handle that, then oh well.

The BIG One Nine

The BIG One Nine

Guess what…. IT'S MY BIRTHDAY and today I turn 19 years old.

I am just so thankful that I have been able to walk and live on earth and meet so many great people in my life! It has been a great 19 years so far, and I am so excited to see what is in store for my future and what I am going to do with the available opportunities.

It is just crazy to me to think my life is shaping on its own where soon I'm going to be 20, and eventually be finished with university, have my career in set, and possibly get engaged or even married… So many things can happen in the next decade of my life.. and it is just crazy to think I've been alive for almost 2 decades…

To show you how exciting my birthday is, I decided to share pictures of my day so you can see how well I spent my 19th birthday!
Enjoy my lovely iPhone quality pictures!
Had my sister drive herself to school.  Afterwards, took the car and drove myself to school.
What a great way to start off my birthday with some morning selfish on my way to school!
After my 10 am class, I'm in the library reading the book for my socio anthropology class later at 2 pm ("Righteous Dopefiend" by Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg)
In my socio anthro class, decided to buy a large sweet apple cider before class! It felt so great to have something warm for the cold weather!
Jay took me out to Kelsey's Restaurant!
Picture of the birthday girl!
Appetizer: Nachos … hmmm yummy
7 Layer Hamburger!

My birthday cake from my lovely family <3 td="">

First Post

What's should the first post be about?

School?  Too much to write about
Love life?  Do I want my parents even reading about it
Friends? hmm... do I even have "real" friends?

I guess I could talk about why I randomly decided to create a blog.  It was very random actually.  I was cleaning my room, and folding some cloths inside the closet when I decided, hmm.. maybe I should be writing this essay due on Tuesday.

But how could I?  My family from the States would be flying into town this Sunday, and my family is stressing me out to clean my room and help create space for the 7 family coming to stay in our small house. OMG.  Not only do I have exams right after they leave, but I have an essay AND an assignments due while they are here.  I guess the real question is, How do I cope with loud family, staying a 2 bedroom household while trying to balance family time and school...

You maybe be wondering, its summer so why do I even have to worry about school?  Well no offence to myself, but I was acting dumb this year.  I should have honestly tried harder during the first year of university.  If I did, I probably would've had a better GPA and not have to worry if my future is in jeopardy. Relax... my GPA wasn't that bad, it's just for the program I want is so competitive and I need to start being more competitive.  So what better way of getting ahead but by doing summer school?

I thought it was a great idea, until I heard the plans that my family would be doing while they are here... I'm actually kind of jealous because I want to have fun to.

But this is besides the point that I could talk about in another post later. So how did I come to a decision on writing a blog?

I wanted to tweet all my frustration out, but I didn't like how my "friends" would be able to read it... and on tumblr, I don't usually post stuff.. Then I was actually scrolling down Facebook newsfeed and noticed this girl created a blog and I thought it was a cool idea..

After 30 minutes of creating an uncreative url for this blog, here I am writing about it... How lame.
